Head of Business Development - Residential PE


The Role

Our client are a new, but very well capitalised, build-to-rent platform who develop and operate rental homes across the UK. They deliver high-quality houses and already have a growing portfolio of homes. They are now looking for a Head of Business Development to source new acquisitions and build relationships with a range of housebuilders and developers. The business is focused on building a high-quality portfolio of units including a significant proportion of new build assets, so the role is particularly focused on partnerships with housebuilders.


Responsibilities include:

  • Sourcing new opportunities and relationships to build a scale portfolio of high-quality BTR assets
  • Building and maintaining relationships with third parties including developers, agents and housebuilders
  • Leading the business development function and acting as the key contact for a range of housebuilders and developers
  • Creating and directing a strategy to expand the range of opportunities received by the business and helping more junior team members develop their business development skills
  • Feeding into the production of investment committee board packs
  • Maintaining an appropriate level of confidentiality in handling the work of the department
  • Working collaboratively across the business applying rigor and challenge
  • Carrying out ad hoc projects to ensure the smooth running of the department and to aid the achievement of the Company’s objectives


Key requirements for the role:

  • Undergraduate degree (min 2:1) preferred
  • Previous experience in a Real Estate position with a significant component of business development or a B2B sales role within the housebuilding sector
  • Outgoing and personable individual who has a proven track record of cultivating new business opportunities in previous roles 
  • The ability to make commercial judgements within the parameters set by investors and other stakeholders
  • Be proactive in nature with the ability to manage a large number of priorities in parallel while meeting continuous deadlines
  • A keenness to learn and actively participate in a dynamic and constantly adapting environment
  • The ability to communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in written English
  • Exceptional organisation skills and attention to detail
  • A strong work ethic with the ability to work in a team as well as provide leadership to more junior colleagues
