The #IAMWOMAN campaign runs from the 18th to the 22nd of July. Madison Berkeley have partnered with Black Women in Real Estate (BWRE) to create a campaign which aims to attract more young women of colour into the real estate sector.
Starting on Monday the 18th of July, every day a black woman who is working in the real estate industry will share a blog here charting their real estate journey. The aim is to raise awareness of the opportunities available and the routes into the industry for young black women. The #IAMWOMAN campaign also aims to start a conversation about how the industry must change.
“Our industry is white, middle class and overwhelmingly male. We are working with Black Women in Real Estate on the #IAMWOMAN campaign to attract a more diverse workforce into our industry. Without it, the sector will stagnate because companies need a diverse workforce. However, there are so few candidates who meet that criteria.” Nina Zeilerbauer, co-founder of Madison Berkeley.
There is only 13% female representation in the real estate sector as a whole. A 2019 report found that FTSE 100 organisations in the construction and real estate sector had the lowest BAME representation of the labour market at 5.1%, 1.2% of whom were black. This suggests a very low proportion of those working in the sector are black women. Currently the industry workforce does not reflect society. The #IAMWOMAN campaign will highlight this issue with the aim of creating change.
